Rwakobo Rock lodge.

At the edge of Lake Mburo National Park’s northern border, Rwakobo Rock Lodge is located in a wilderness retreat secluded on a rocky outcrop. The park is the smallest in Savannah National Park in Uganda and the lodge is situated just over 1 km from the Nshara Gate of the Park with breathtaking views. The bahima pastoralists of the area, still live traditional lives and are excellent custodians of the natural landscape and its biodiversity.

The lodge provides accommodation in 9 African-styled cottage rooms, three classic safari tents, and five rooms in a shared house. The thatched private cottages, set around the granite rock, blend perfectly into the natural landscape and are fitted with solar lighting, ensuite bathrooms, showers, SPA, mosquito nets, verandas, and many more. The cottages sprout around the hill taking advantage of rocky ledges and secluded corners and celebrating the Lake Mburo National Park’s wilderness.

The lodge facilitates a restaurant where delicious meals are served and prepared by professional chefs, well well-stocked bar with soft and hard drinks, a swimming pool for relaxation, laundry, free wifi, free parking, and many more.

How to access the lodge?

Rwakobo Rock Safari Lodge can be accessed by either road or air transport. By road transport, visitors may use private or public vehicles like buses taking about 4-5 hours’ drive using the Masaka to Mbarara route. While on the way, visitors will spot the Equator at kayabwe a rice plantation, and many more.

By air transport, visitors may fly from Entebbe International airport or Kajjassi to Mbarara airstrip, which will take less than an hour. However, after the airstrip, visitors will have about 40 minutes to drive to the lodge.

What to do while at Rwakobo safari lodge?

Game drive.

Rwapoko Safari Lodge is the best destination for game driving since the lodge is located at the edge of Lake Mburo National Park. The game drive takes about 2-3 hours for visitors to search using tourism vehicles. Game drive can be early morning or evening hours to spot early risers and grazers respectively. During the activity, the visitors will spot about 68 mammal species including impala, eland, and klipspringer. It is also a home for zebras, buffaloes, warthogs, leopards, topi, bushbucks, hyenas, and jackals.

Bird watching

Lake Mburo National Park is a birding paradise for birders. Birding may take half a day or a full day depending on the itinerary. The guide leads the activity and it involves footing to the park so visitors are advised to pack comfortable hiking boots, raincoats, water &snacks, binoculars, cameras, and many more. The park is home to 350 bird species including the black-collared barbet and bare-faced go-away bird, grey crowned bird, the papyrus gonolek, blue-headed coucal, and shoebill, and many more.

Nature walks

Lake Mburo National Park is the best destination for nature walks, which involve footing in the park or around the local communities surrounding the park. The activity is led by a guide who knows what is best for the visitor and takes about 2-3 hours. Nature walks offer the best spots for mammal and bird species because visitors can reach places tourist vehicles can’t. Some mammal species spotted include zebras, giraffes, buffalos, warthogs, water bucks, and many more.

In the local communities, visitors will visit local markets, associations like women where they are taught how to cook local meals, local doctors who use herbs as medicines, will be entertained traditionally, and many more.

Culture encounters.

Lake Mburo National Park is located in the western part of Uganda commonly known for pastoralists. People around the park rear cattle making it the best destination for culture. Visitors may do the milking, and cattle raring, learn to do ghee, teach them to cook local meals, and many more.  Cultural encounters take about 2-3 hours and visitors are entertained by traditional dances, visitors are taught how to cook locally, and many more.

What is the best time to visit the lodge?

Uganda experiences two types of seasons: wet season and dry season. During the dry season, the lodge is always occupied because it is a busy season for visitors and rooms are always full. However, it is advisable to book in time to avoid inconveniences although in wet season some rooms are free since it is low season.  Dry season months include June to August and December to February and wet season months include March to May and September to November.
