Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi National Park
Depart Kampala for your day 1. The drive time to Bwindi is 8-9 hours. Although it may seem quite a long journey, it is worth it because you get to enjoy the countryside scenery with some of the most beautiful landscapes ranging from plantations, hills, to the Virungas massive. Just keep your cameras near you and your driver will definitely stop if you need him to so that you can capture that beautiful moment.
You will have an en-route stopover at the equator crossing at Kayabwe for the photography and simple experience before you continue to Mbarara town for lunch. After lunch, you will embark on your scenic drive to Bwindi National Park. Dinner and overnight options at Bakiga lodge (moderate), Buhoma lodge (luxury)
Day 2: Gorilla trekking and community visit to Batwa pygmies
Arise early for the great forest sounds of the African jungle for your breakfast, with your packed lunch, you go for the pre-trek orientations from the rangers at the park headquarters who will tell you what to do and expect and how to conduct yourself while in the jungle trekking the mountain gorillas.
Your trek may last from 2-6 hours therefore your physical stamina and endurance are greatly required for this experience. The trek for great apes is tiresome but very well rewarded meeting, spending time with, and photographing these giants as you look straight into their brown eyes. This is a lifetime thrill of a wildlife adventure that only Africa can offer
After your 1 hour with the mountain gorillas, you return to the starting point to have lunch, recharge your energy with a meal, then embark on your journey back to the briefing point to meet your guide who will drive you back to the lodge for a short break before heading to the community walks around Batwa tribe
The Batwa are marginalized the indigenous tribe of the Bwindi impenetrable forest and the surrounding area. The Batwa originally were forest-dwelling hunter-gatherers based in the great lakes region of central Africa and are widely accepted as the original inhabitants of the region but many are now homeless and a good number now live in established communities around the forest.
Day 3: Transfer Back to Kampala
You will start this day with an early morning breakfast and preparations for a transfer back to Kampala. You will pass via the beautiful Kigezi highlands with the amazing terraces and have a stopover at the equator for lunch and photographs. Your tour guide/ driver will transfer you back to your residence in Kampala while waiting for your international flights
