The 5 days gorilla trekking package offers a different experience from Rwanda and Congo. This will give you a chance to track lowland gorillas in Congo and mountain gorillas in Rwanda. Remember in Rwanda a gorilla permit costs 1500$ whereas in Congo it costs 400$ which offers visitors to do gorilla trekking in Virungas national park at an affordable price although the country experiences closures and pressure within but it has much to offer to its visitors.

Virungas National Park is the oldest national park established in 1925. Virungas national park consists of two of the most active volcanoes in Africa and that is Nyiragongo and Nyamuragira. These volcanoes are rated 30% of the most recent volcanic eruptions in Africa. The park is special due to its location within the Albertine Rift and its astonishing biodiversity and landscape. It consists of savanna grasslands, Afro-montane forests, and marshlands and plains. Virungas is also home to 200 species of mammals including the rare Okapi, Thomas cobs, elephants, buffaloes, and the largest population of about 19,000 hippos in the world.

On the contrary, Volcanoes national park is the most visited national park in Rwanda. It’s home to endangered mountain gorillas and golden monkeys, and other animals that live in the park such as black-fronted duiker, buffalo, spotted hyena, and a number of bushbucks. Day 1: Transfer to volcanoes national park

Very early in the morning, your driver will pick you up from your hotel in Rwanda, and brief you about the whole trip, what to do and where to go. Start your journey and the first stopover will be visiting cultural and memorable sites including the ibyiwacu cultural center, and the 1994 Rwanda genocide memorable center, here you will experience the unique culture of Rwanda, interact with the locals, and learn and get entertained by locals through music and dances. After you will embark on your 3-hour drive to volcanoes national park to rest, have dinner, and overnight at

Day 2:  Gorilla trekking 

Wake up very early in the morning, have breakfast, and head to the park head office for a briefing. This is always about the guidelines and precautions to take while in the park and with the mountain gorillas, assign to different gorilla families in a group of about 8 members. After you will be accompanied by park rangers and guides including porters to help you carry excess packages carried in order to enjoy your trekking experience.

Gorilla trekking takes about 2-6 hours deep in the forest searching for the gorillas and when you encounter them you are given one hour to enjoy, and interact with them so utilize the given time properly to enjoy the experience through taking pictures, videos learning and understand their behaviors. After, return to the office to receive your certificates that showed you have trekked mountain gorillas in volcanoes national park, meet your driver and take you back to the lodge to relax. later in the day you may take a visit to the ibyiwacu  cultural center and get to know more about Rwanda and its culture after coming back for dinner and overnight at Le Bambou gorilla lodge,

Day 3: Transfer to Virungas national park

On the 3rd day of your 5 days gorilla tour, you will wake up in the morning to breakfast, and embark on your journey to Virungas national park in D R Congo, on your way, you will experience a remarkable view of the countryside, the beautiful scenery including a lake Kivu the largest freshwater lake, reach Goma town and cross to Congo, here you will be escorted by guides from the park who will guide you through the remaining journey up to the lodge. Dinner and overnight at Orchid safari lodge, kibumba tented camp, Mikeno lodge options.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Virungas national park

Have breakfast in the morning and transfer o head offices for briefing, just like other gorilla trekking activities in Rwanda and Uganda. This is the best experience where you will get the chance to enjoy both mountain gorillas and lowland gorillas which are highly endangered. After spending your one hour with the gorillas in the dense jungle you will return to the office to receive your gorilla certificates, meet your driver and drive back to the lodge for lunch and relax.

Later in the afternoon you can decide or choose to visit the Senkwekwe gorilla orphanage center to see the 5 gorilla orphans that were rescued from the poachers after their mothers were killed and visit the nearby community. Later return to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Mikeno lodge, kibumba tented camp, and orchid safari lodge.

Day 5: Transfer to Kigali and departure

The last day that marks the end of your 5th day’s gorilla tour in Rwanda and Congo. Wake up in the morning according to your time, have breakfast, check out of the lodge and embark on your journey back to Kigali-Rwanda.  If time allows you may take a tour around the city to visit the former presidential palace now a museum, Kigali’s main market an artisan shop for souvenirs. After the driver will drop you at the lodge and if you are departing on the same day, he will drop you at the airport for your departure.
