WORLD TOURISM DAY IS LAUNCHED BY TOURISM MINISTER IN CELEBRATING ‘TOURISM WEEK’
World tourism day is a special day that is commonly celebrated in the whole world since most countries have got touristic attractions where different people in different countries travel to visit the beauty of the country.
On 27th September 2022, the Ugandan Minister for Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities Maria Mutagamba officially launched tourism activities that lead to the celebrations of Tourism Day in Uganda.
The tourism activities that took place in the warming up celebration for tourism include
- Domestic tourism launch dinner set for Aug.29.
- King Oyo Empango celebrations for Sept. 7.
- Rwenzori Royal mountain climbing challenge for Aug.8.
- Tourism exhibition to be held at Booma Grounds, Fortportal from Sept. 24 to 27 and many activities.
“The sector is one of the major contributors to economic growth and urged the youth to get involved in ventures related to the sector. “It is a source of employment and that means earning money,” she said to the journalists on 2 August 2022.
She added saying that the government is committed to financing the sector as more developments in it are realized.
Uganda is mentioned several times as a top tourist attraction across the world, hence more could be gained out of the sector.
The beauty touristic attractions in Uganda like Murchison falls national Park, Queen Elizabeth national park, Lake Mburo national park, Semuliki national park, Mt Rwenzori national park, Mt Elgon national park, Bwindi impenetrable national park, Mgahinga national park and many others.
“Uganda earns Shs 2.7 trillion as revenue from the sector annually.” Official data says. The undisturbed green nature lays the pride of Uganda’s tourism. Some of the touristic features include birding for bird lovers, wildlife, gorilla trekking, chimpanzee tracking and many more.

King Oyo Empango celebrations.
Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru The King of Toro on September 8, 2022, hosted schoolchildren at his Karuzika Palace in Fort Portal city ahead of his 27th Empango celebrations. Several traditional performances, including the Orunyege dance, Amakondere royal dance and folk songs were performed during the celebration which promotes a culture in their tribe.
Oyo entering in the Guinness Book of Records as the youngest king in the world in 1992 at the age of 2 years and a half attracting tourists during the 27th Empango ceremony.
Just like Kwita Izina celebration in Rwanda, the Empaako celebration in Toro also attracts many visitors all over the world to celebrate with the Toro people. Empaako celebration is a naming practice that is given to children of Toro according to 12 pet names shared across the communities in addition to given names and family clans. The naming is not only practiced in Batoro but also in Bunyoro,batuku, Batagwenda and Bantabindi. Such celebration has attracted many tourists which has increased the standard of living in the Tourism industry.
Mt. Rwenzori Royal mountain climbing challenge for Aug.8.
Uganda tourism board continuously rebuilds the tourism industry again by embarking on the promotion of sustainable adventure tourism under the Campaign – Conserving Mountain Ecosystems with Fort Portal Tourism City due to the fact that Tourism has been hit by coronavirus on Sunday 7th august in 2022.
Highlight the beauty and splendor of the Rwenzori Mountain ranges as one of the remaining equatorial glaciers in the world, king Oyo of Tooro, UNDP and the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife & Antiquities supported the campaign.
Despite the fact that the king draws attention to the impact of climate change, Mountain Rwenzori is a unique adventure that attracts many tourists all over the world.
The domestic tourism launch dinner is set for august 27.
To encourage Ugandans to explore the various holiday destinations countrywide during the holiday, the Government through the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities has launched an Easter domestic tourism campaign.
the State Minister for Tourism Martin Bahinduka Mugarra launched the campaign on Monday at the Uganda Media Centre which runs from April 10th to 22nd 2022. During the campaign, UWEC officials and UTB officials were present.
Bahinduka said they are launching the Easter holiday getaway packages that will be used during the Easter holiday period for Ugandans to go and recharge in various destinations across the country.
