Uganda has got various amazing waterfalls that each eye shouldn’t miss a glance at. Uganda is one of the best countries where the most powerful falls are spotted in the whole world like murchison falls, sipi falls, Busowoko falls, panda falls, Bujagali falls, Ripon falls, karuma falls, Owen falls, Kisiizi falls, sezibwa falls, Griffin falls and Aruu falls, however, some waterfalls aren’t known.

Murchison falls.

The most powerful falls in the world.Murchison falls are the most powerful falls in the whole world. These falls are located in masindi in murshison falls national park which was locally known as Kabalenga Park from kabalenga falls. Murchison falls is an amazing experience with a roaring sound of the Nile forces its way through a gap in the rocks, only 7 m (23 ft) wide, and tumbles 43 m (141 ft), before flowing westward into Lake Albert. The falls have the best spectacular amazing rainbow that is spotted during sunny weather.

While at the falls, there are many different bird species like grey crowned crane, long-horned billed bird, martial eagles, kingfishers, Giant Heron, Shoebill stork, Abyssinian Ground Hornbills, Nightjars, Marabou stork, Black-headed lapwing, Back-bellied Bustard among others.

Besides the Murchison falls activity, there are other activities to do in Murchison falls national park like birding, and game drive where different species are potted like elephants, buffalos, giraffes, leopards, warthogs, bush pigs, waterbucks and many more. Even the boat cruise at the lower side of the falls is the best amazing experience at the park.

Busowoko falls in jinja.

Busowoko falls is a hidden treasure gem worth visiting in Uganda. Just after Namavundu forest, 19kms off Jinja City (Approx. 81kms by road), East of Kampala, and visiting Busowoko falls found in Bususwa/Bukongo village, Kitanaba Sub-county is the best unique experience that you can’t afford to miss on your itinatinery. Busowoko waterfalls are the longest river on earth, flowing on its three-month journey to the Mediterranean Sea. It is a hidden gem that has since been flooded by travelers and one that offers a fresh experience as you view part of the River Nile.

However Busowoko waterfalls were affected by the Coronavirus, the government eased the restrictions and a group of travel friends and me who had grown so bored under the lockdown decided to hit the road and go to Jinja City to experience Busowoko falls, as a way of loosening up.

What are activities taking place at busowoko waterfalls?

Water rafting is on the White Nile which is one of the best activities to do on Busowoko waterfalls. The activity takes about 3-6 hours sailing on white water spotting various green vegetation around the Nile. It is a great experience that is worth the cost and you’re free to take as many photos as of your choice.

 Water messaging

Despite the fact that busowoko resort beach has waterfalls, some areas are limited and warned about by travellers because of slippery rocks around the falls. However, some area is safe and advised to have moments around like taking a shower at the falls have the force to make you feel that you having an African massage.

Camping

Worry not where to stay for a night while at Busowoko resort. It welcomes campers at very cheap prices, there are restaurants in case you’re worried about breakfast, lunch and super. The camping site is safe and protected so you have nothing to worry about. During camping you have some activities to do like swimming at the falls, water rafting and nile tubing which will make your trip memorable while at busowoko.

Nile Tubing.

This is an everyday activity that is mostly done in jinja. The action takes 2-3 hours depending on what you want and during the activity; visitors will spot different bird species like kingfisher, spurful, egrets, owl and many more. While tubing you are free to swim the middle of the Nile if you know how to swim.

Griffin falls.

Griffin falls is located in the central-eastern part of Uganda on jinja road. The griffin falls are located in mabira forest which is the best destination for birding, zip lining and nature walks. Walking through mabira falls to griffin falls needs when you have a guide in order not to get lost in the jungle. However, griffin falls are less visited by visitors. Zip lining is a common activity done in mabira forest and is a great experience.

Sipi falls.

Sipi falls is an amazing fall that is located on the edge side of mt Elgon but with a series of three waterfalls in the eastern part of Uganda. The distance from Kampala to sipi falls to 235sqkm and its the most visited place in Uganda due to its beauty and nature. While at the falls, visitors can do agro –tour the community, mountain biking, and visiting rocks and coffee plantations. However, it is costly to hike on top of the falls just like Murchison falls.

Itanda falls.

Itanda falls are located in the eastern part of Uganda on jinja Nile in jinja district covering 27km as it takes a 45-minute drive along the source of the Nile  . The fall is commonly visited due to the fact that it has 6 white water rafting features. Itanda falls was one visited by prince William the great of Britain.

Various species will be spotted while at the falls and these are monkeys, baboons and different bird species for bird lovers like egrets, owl, kingfishers, grey crowned cranes and many more. Besides the above activities, there is a local community nature walk where visitors will explore cultural tours from the community around the falls.

Sezibwa falls.

Sezibwa falls is located in mukono district on jinja road highway from Kampala. The falls are cultural heritage sites that are 1.5km off the main road but 20miles from kampala jinja highway. However, the falls are known for culture and spiritual sites for the local communities living around them. the local’s believe in their local gods and the belief in falls as their pilgrimages however there are more activities done on the falls like hiking on top of the falls and birding for bird lovers.

Karuma falls.

Karuma falls is located in the southern part of Uganda bordering Masindi,Amuru and oyam districts. It takes 311km from Kampala,70km from gulu town and 110km from masindi town The water is sequenced through the small rocks from victoria  Nile which creates white foam that is beautifully made to glance at. Karuma falls is bisected by the bridge that masindi gulu road crosses the river Nile. The karuma Bridget was built in 1963 however its also known for the hydropower projects.
